Project A: Brighton Peace and Environment Centre – Energywise addressing fuel poverty in B&H
Energywise will provide advice and empower the most vulnerable residents in the city, giving them full control over their domestic energy usage. The projects will deliver 2 workshops, 5 event stalls, and energy efficiency measures in 7 properties (to be provided by BHESCO).
Impact: £150 annual energy cost saving and 300kg less CO2 per household
Fund to cover: 100% project costs, 3,200£ for staff costs, volunteers expenses, and BHESCO costs.
Beneficiary: B&H vulnerable communities: Hangleton, Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb
Project B: BHESCO – ‘Warmth For Wellbeing’: 25 properties in B&H
BHESCO will identify people living in cold homes in Brighton & Hove and take action to a/ reduce monthly expenditure on energy bills and b/ improve the thermal efficiency and comfort of their property. This will result in improved health and wellbeing for the residents in 25 properties across the city.
Impact: £3,600 annual energy cost saving and 7,500kg less CO2 for the 25 households
BEC Fund to cover: 100% project costs, staff costs, operations, energy efficiency measures
Beneficiary: 25 properties living in fuel poverty
Project C: OVESCO – Bespoke Educational Package and Display Screens for Solar Schools
OVESCO will combine renewable energy with education by developing an educational package and smart display screens for the schools on which they have installed solar panels (Downlands Community School and Sussex Downs College). The display will show the generation of the PV panels, how they work, the grid consumption of the schools and bespoke slides with sustainability messages.
BEC Fund will cover: 100% project costs, smart display screens, software development, staff costs, website
Beneficiary: 2000 students in schools in East Sussex
Project D: Saint Nicholas Church – LED lighting system in a 900-year-old church
Portslade & Mile Oak Parish plan to rewire 900-yr-old Saint Nicolas’ Church and install new LED lighting to highlight the features of the church to visitors. This will help the Church become more energy efficient and a provide a show case study for other churches and places of worship.
Impact: £440 electricity bill savings, 3,750 kWh of electricity saved and 1.1 tonnes of CO2 per annum
