How does it work?
We rent your roof space, then fund, install, own and maintain a solar array on it. The businesses in the building buy the electricity they use from it at a discount to grid prices.
What does it cost us?
Nothing upfront. BEC pays for the design, installation and maintenance of the solar array — you simply pay a discounted rate for the solar electricity you use.
Who owns and maintains the panels?
BEC owns the array and covers monitoring and maintenance for the life of the agreement.
Is my building suitable?
We look for large, sound rooftops with businesses on site that use electricity during the day. Get in touch and we'll do a free assessment.
What if we own the building but don't occupy it?
We can still rent your roof. The tenants in the building buy the solar electricity they use at a discount, and you receive rent for the roof space.
What if we lease our property?
That's no problem — we work with many organisations that lease their premises. We'll work with you and your landlord to come to an agreement that suits everyone.
What happens if our business stops using the building?
The solar panels stay with the building. They'll either pass to the new occupier or be sold with the building.
How do we get started?
Choose "Hosting solar on my roof" on the sign-up form, or contact the team for a free solar consultation.
How does community investment work?
When BEC opens a share offer, people can invest in the co-op. The money helps finance renewable energy projects, and members may receive interest on their shares according to the terms of the offer.
Is a share offer open now?
No share offer is currently open. You can register your interest to hear about future opportunities.
How much can I invest?
Minimum and maximum investment amounts are set out in each share offer document. These may vary between offers.
Will I receive interest?
BEC aims to pay interest to members in accordance with the terms of each share offer. Payments are not guaranteed and depend on the co-op's financial performance and relevant decisions.
Can I get my money back?
Community shares are generally withdrawable rather than freely transferable. Withdrawal is subject to the co-op's rules, available funds and applicable share offer terms. Your capital is at risk.
How do I hear about the next offer?
Register your interest with Brighton Energy Co-op and we'll let you know when a new share offer is announced.
